I have always been a huge advocate for the “fake it till you make it” rule of building self-confidence. I’d walk into an event and pretend – not to be confident – but to not be afraid of talking to people! Eventually, not being afraid to talk to people turned into not being afraid to talk in front of people and from there confidence grew. Now, thanks to fake it till you make it, I can walk into any room with any person and start a conversation.

Some people believe faking it means being fake. I don’t. For me walking around with a lack of self-confidence and not believing in yourself THAT is fake. Pretending you are confident is actually pretending to be something you already are but you have allowed to be clouded over by this other persona of lack, fear and doubt.

I have written about how to fake it till you make it

Here are some of my favorite quotes which outline the benefits of “faking it”

“You are what you believe yourself to be.” – Paulo Coelho

“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”  ? Aristotle

“Believe in yourself and there will come a day when others will have no choice but to believe with you.”  – Cynthia Kersey

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” – Mark Victor Hansen

“You must do the things you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.” – Thomas Carlyle quotes

“The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you.” – William Jennings Bryan quotes
