One of the more frustrating parts of New Age can be generic statements that don’t always have a positive effect on our life. For example the phrase “everything happens for a reason” – really…. absolutely everything?

I believe many things happen for a reason and the reason is usually our personal development and growth. There are learning opportunities in most situations but sometimes bad things happen to good people and that is all there is to it.

Another phrase relates to us being told that all our thoughts create our reality. I wonder what people would say about me as a child. I had a long walk home from school and in the winter it was dark.

I used to worry about something bad happening to me every day. I actually believed with all my heart that if I thought about bad things happening they would not happen. I thought bad things happened to good people because they never spent time thinking about the fact that bad things could happen.

They went through life blissfully unaware of the bad. I thought they were naive. So I focused purely on all the bad that could happen to me and guess what…. nothing bad ever did happen to me on the way home in those dark alley ways.

It is my belief that what a person believes with all their heart is even stronger than what they think about. I believe we get what we focus on with belief. This is true for the positive too.

If you just speak an affirmation without any belief in it happening the chances of it happening are less than if you focus on it with belief in your heart. If you can say and feel your affirmation and believe in it happening it happens.

There is also more to it than belief. There is also detachment. When you are attached and desperate for something to happen chances are you chase it away. When you relax and allow things to happen its more likely that you will experience them.

So the trick to playing the game of life and manifesting what you desire is to affirm and visualize with belief and detachment.

But I am off point a little. All I really want to focus on is that bad things can sometimes happen. I mention that in my ebook Feel and Rebuild Confidence. I encourage people to look at their past purely for learning purposes but to understand that sometimes things happen and there are no  reasons for them.

Recently a comment was left on Chapter 5 – The Law of Karma from @Valvacious who said….

“Just wanted to point out a pet peeve of mine. I have The Game of Life and how to play it book, Abraham Hicks book and various other LOA books. One point that is always left out and should have been mentioned, IMO, is this: In Matthew 5:45 Jesus said that God “…makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” In other words….Bad things can happen to Good people.”

Also further along the comment was this….

“That appears to be the case in Luke 13:4 with the tower in Siloam that we read about. We know from Jesus’ words that a tower fell and it killed eighteen men. Jesus said it was not because those men who died were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem. So what happened, then? What happened is the tower fell over and the people who happened to be in its way were killed. It had nothing to do with how good or how bad they were, it had to do with the tower failing and gravity doing what gravity does.”

What do you think about this topic? Do you believe absolutely everything that happens is a result of our bad thinking or do you think that sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing we can do about it? Or something inbetween?

If life is a game to be played then surely in the game there are times when things just are the way that they are and there is nothing to be done about it but learn from it when we can and move on?
